Orientation Sessions for New Online Students

Welcome to College START! We are looking forward to an exciting semester filled with enriching academic courses as well as opportunities for engagement through online social activities. We can’t wait to get to know you!

To prepare for the start of courses on Monday, August 26, we have prepared a collection of orientation materials for you. Please take a look at the outline below and mark your calendars.

Orientation Programming Overview

To support your strong connection to programming and community, the LC team has designed a robust orientation program for students and their families. The major components of our Orientation program include:

  • The Student Onboarding Portal: This portal contains important documents and activities for you to complete before classes begin. When you are accepted to Landmark you'll receive login credentials to access the Onboarding Portal at this link.
  • New Student Orientation Course in Canvas: This self-guided, asynchronous orientation course for all students will be available starting Monday, August 19.
  • Online Student Orientation: This section provides an overview of the orientation programming for online students.
  • Online Family Orientation: We recognize families play an integral part in supporting their students in having a successful experience. To support your journey, we have also designed a series of sessions for students' families.

  • The Onboarding Portal for new students includes information that you'll need to get ready for the semester, and it also includes important steps for you to take to begin your Landmark Education. Please ensure that you have completed the following before beginning your courses:

    • Read the Portal Instructions (under the Admissions section) for full information about how to use the portal.
    • Complete the Math Placement Test (on the right-hand side under "Resources") - this must be done before classes begin. You can find instructions on the left under "Academic Placement".
    • Follow the instructions to upload an ID photo (under the Admissions section). We'll mail you your student ID card along with some Landmark swag at the start of the semester!
    • Fill out the FERPA Release form and other forms in the "Registration & Releases" section.
    • Review the computer package details and form and fill them out to order your LC computer package.

Completing all of these steps before courses begin will give you a great start on the semester!

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will see a welcome letter in the "Academic Placement" section. Please note that individual students may have placement recommendations that differ from the content of this letter. Each student will be contacted individually to confirm their course recommendations.

  • The New Student Orientation course in Canvas (our Learning Management System) will be available to all new students (online and on-campus) about two weeks before orientation begins. You will receive a notification in your Landmark e-mail inbox, and you can access the course at this link: https://landmark.instructure.com/

This course consists of self-guided, independent modules to help you gain important skills and knowledge. Topics include:

    • Words of welcome from Landmark staff
    • Technology Guide for Students: tutorials in the software and systems you'll use regularly as a Landmark student
    • Neurodiversity at Landmark: a collection of videos and web resources celebrating and championing neurodiversity
    • Safety and Well-being: This section covers some essential topics for college students.
  • The following orientation schedule, including links to attend the sessions, will be sent to students and families by email. Links are not included here for the sake of privacy.

Links to attend these sessions will be sent by email to online students' Landmark email accounts. Sessions will be recorded and students who are unable to attend can request access by emailing Jessica Lindoerfer.
