Before You Leave
Please remember that you are responsible for completing all of the following steps before leaving for break
- Remove trash from your room and all common areas to prevent bug and rodent problems. Room/Suite-Apartment Common space trash left will be billed to the room. It is recommended that you put any valuable belongings, books, or clothes up off the floor in case of a water leak.
- Secure all valuables and personal belongings. The College assumes no liability for personal property.
- Turn off all electrical appliances (only exceptions: fridge, fish tank).
- Close and lock room doors and windows. Leave shades up.
- Please be advised, residence hall staff will inspect every room prior to closing the halls for break, and secure any unlocked doors; don’t get charged for a lockout! Remember to bring your room/suite keys and ID with you for break, and bring them back when you return.
- If leaving a car on campus, please contact Campus Safety for instructions on short term vehicle parking. Cars left on upper or lower campus will be towed at owner’s expense in the event of a snowstorm.
Staying on Campus
Need to stay in housing over the Thanksgiving Break?
- Please read below and click the link at the bottom to fill out the application.
- Thanksgiving Break Housing Request form will be available on September 1, 2024.
- Thanksgiving Break Housing Requests are due by Friday, November 13, 2024 at noon p.m.
- Request form submission does not guarantee approval. Your request will be reviewed, and an email with approval or denial will be sent by Monday, November 15, 2024.

Criteria and Policies for Remaining on Campus during Thanksgiving Break
- The deadline to apply for break housing is 5 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2024. Applications will then be reviewed by the Residential Life to establish eligibility. If you do not sign up by this deadline, you are not eligible for break housing. All applications will be answered by Monday, November 16, 2024.
- Students who are currently on a disciplinary status of Probation or higher are not eligible for break housing unless written permission is granted by the Dean of Students.
- There is a strict “no guest” policy during the duration of break housing.
- All of the College’s policies and regulations, as outlined in the Student Handbook, will be in effect. Any violations of the College policies or Standards of Conduct during break housing will require a student to leave campus for the remainder of the break period.
- If you plan on returning to the College at any time during the break, you must apply for housing (even if you will not be sleeping on campus).
- The cost is $495 per person to remain on campus. The cost is the same whether you stay for part or all of the break. Dining services, security, and administrative coverage in the Residence Halls will be available during this break period.
- You must attend a mandatory Thanksgiving Break Stay meeting on November 20th at 7 p.m. it will be sent via Outlook Calendar Appointment

All students must make a checkout appointment with their Resident Dean before leaving campus for Winter Break. Appointment signups are located at each RA Office.
Residence Halls close on Sunday, December 17, 2024, at Noon. All students must vacate their rooms and depart campus by this time.
Residence Halls re-open for January Term students only on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Noon.
Residence Halls open for Spring Term returning students on Saturday, January 25, 2024, at Noon. Arrival times for Saturday and Sunday will sent via Student Email prior to the break.
Whether you’re returning for January Term or Spring, or graduating in December, there are some requirements you’ll need to fulfill before leaving your room for Winter Break.
Students Returning for J-Term/Spring Term to the SAME room
You may leave your belongings in your room. In addition, you must fulfill below requirements. These will be reviewed with RA/RD staff when you check out:
- Remove trash from your room and all common areas to prevent bug and rodent problems. Swipe down surfaces, organize belongings, and put away clothes in dressers and other storage containers. If your roommate is not returning or moving to a new room, you will need to pick up all belongings from the floor so your room can be cleaned by custodians over the break. Cleanup for any trash left in room/suite-apartment common space will be billed to the room. It is recommended that you put any valuable/loose belongings, books, or clothes up off the floor in case of a water leaks.
- Secure all valuables and personal belongings. The College assumes no liability for personal property.
- Unplug all appliances including fridge. Fridge must be defrosted/cleaned prior to checkout, and left open to prevent mold growth. Put towel in bottom of fridge to collect moisture. (Students living in Bridges must remove all perishable foods from common fridge and clean the fridge out, but it can be left plugged in over the break.)
- Close and lock room doors and windows. Close shades.
- Turn your key over to staff at your checkout appointment. Students who do not turn in keys will be billed for a key core change.
- Please be advised that residence hall staff will inspect every room prior to closing the halls for break and secure any unlocked doors; don’t get charged for a lockout!
- If leaving a car on campus, please park it in the lower part of D lot. Cars left on upper or lower campus will be towed at owner’s expense in the event of a snowstorm.
Students Returning for J-Term/Spring Term to a DIFFERENT room
You will need to store your belongings over the break, in addition to fulfilling below requirements. Arranging for storage is your responsibility (Storage and Packing Information). These requirements will be reviewed with RA/RD staff when you check out:
- Remove all of your belongings from your room prior to check out appointment.
- Please note any abandoned property will be disposed of.
- Vacuum floor and clean common spaces. Wipe down all surfaces with wet paper towel or sponge to remove any residue.
- Close and lock room doors and windows. Close shades.
- Review Room Condition Report with Residential Life Staff and sign. Residential Life Staff and Maintenance staff will assess charges to students for damaged items in rooms.
- Turn your key over to staff at your checkout appointment. Students who do not turn in keys will be billed for a key core change.
- If leaving a car on campus, please park it in the lower part of D lot. Cars left on upper or lower campus will be towed at owner’s expense in the event of a snowstorm.
Students Not Returning for J-Term or Spring Term
You must fulfill the following requirements before leaving campus. These will be reviewed with RA/RD staff when you check out:

Returning Students Enrolled in J-Term
You will be staying in the same room as in the Fall 2024 semester. You do not have to move out of your room for winter break, but please follow our Winter Break guidelines on this page. You will be able to move back into your room for J-Term on Monday, January 5, 2025.
Returning Students Enrolled in J-Term Who Have Requested a Room Change for Spring Term
You must first receive approval for a room change from the Assistant Director of Housing Operations. At the end of the Fall 2024 semester, you will need to completely move out of your room. You will be able to move into your new room for J-Term and Spring 2025 on Sunday, January 5, 2025

Remember to bring your room/suite keys and ID with you for break, and bring them back when you return.

- You must attend a mandatory Spring Break Stay meeting on Wednesday prior to Spring Break Closing in Dining Hall Conference Room B (you will receive an appointment reminder). March 5, 2025 at 7 p.m.
- Anyone who stays past the residence hall closing time and leaves late or who arrives early back on campus after break will be charged $90.
